A Digital Checklist for Businesses in Their First Two Years

What does a new small business need to be found and bought from online? A step-by-step checklist from Google Business Profile to your own ordering system.

New businesses are usually busy with the products and customers right in front of them. But most buyers now check Google, Instagram or WhatsApp before they visit. This checklist is layered, so you know what to do now and what can wait.

Layer one: the must-have, low-cost basics

  • Google Business Profile. This comes first. Without it, your shop is almost invisible on Google Maps. Add opening hours, photos, category and your WhatsApp number.
  • WhatsApp Business. Turn on the product catalog, auto-replies and chat labels (new, in progress, done). For lots of small businesses, this is their first online checkout.
  • Instagram Business. Your visual portfolio and social proof, like testimonials and the vibe of your shop.
  • One bio link. A single link in your bio that points to WhatsApp, Google Maps and other ways to order.

Layer two: once things settle down

  • A simple website. It doesn't need to be a full online store. One page with your story, best products, location and an order button builds trust and helps you show up on Google.
  • Basic local SEO. Use the same name, address and phone number everywhere, ask customers for Google reviews, and refresh your photos regularly.
  • TikTok. If your products look good on camera, short videos can reach new people without a big following.
  • Marketplaces. If your products can be shipped, list them on a marketplace.

Layer three: as the business grows up

  • Digital payments such as QRIS.
  • A simple customer database so you can reach past customers with promos.
  • Reading basic data from Google Business Profile and Instagram, like peak hours and where visitors come from.

Delivery apps or your own ordering system?

Delivery apps give you quick access to lots of users, with couriers and payments built in. But every order carries a commission, and the customer data stays with the app. You can't reach those customers again without going through the app.

Your own ordering system is the opposite. Traffic builds up gradually, but there's no per-order commission and the customer data is all yours. Plenty of businesses use both: apps to reach new customers, their own system for regulars.

When is it time to level up?

Start with WhatsApp Business as your online checkout. When orders start slipping through, manual records can't keep up, or app commissions feel heavy, your business is ready for its own ordering system. That's where Kreasi Digital Hub can help design a system that fits how you work.
